Since 1888, the YWCA NorthEastern NY has strengthened the community with enriching programs and services that create opportunities for women’s growth and leadership in order to attain a common vision: eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. Your support will be highlighted to our loyal and diverse membership of nearly 2,000. Below is a description of our major events.
The Women of Achievement Award is a competitive and prestigious award that is presented to at least five outstanding women who embody the YWCA’s mission to empower women and eliminate racism. The REACH Award (REcognition of Outstanding ACHievements) is given to silent heroines who make a difference in the work place. This non-competitive award is a unique and eloquent way to express gratitude to women employees, for their dedication in the workplace.
The 2012 Unsung Heroine Celebration (February 12, 2012) highlights the accomplishments and spirit of African – American women in Schenectady who have given their time, talent and resources to benefit others. February has been designated Black History Month to offer a time to reflect on the many contributions and the history of African Americans. Unsung Heroines are the cement in building a “Beloved Community”. The women are recognized for their dedicated efforts to improve the lives and rights of those who are disenfranchised. The celebration is free and open to the public.
The YW’s 2012 Annual Breakfast Meeting (May 23, 2012) is a gathering of members and supporters of the YWCA NENY’s mission & programs and is held at the Glen Sanders Mansion. The agenda contains the “year in review” presentation, recognizes the winner of the prestigious Katherine (Kay) S. Rozendaal Award, honoring an outstanding community volunteer, honors and celebrates YW volunteers, and recognizes partners and collaborators from the community.
The YW’s 2012 Golf Tournament (Fall 2012) at the Mohawk Golf Club will benefit our domestic violence and breast cancer education/screening programs. Each year the YWCA provides a safe location for 4958 victims of domestic violence to receive shelter, advocacy in the courts, and counseling. The Encore: Take Charge of Your Health program, provides breast cancer screening and education to the under and/or uninsured women living in Schenectady County.
Sponsoring the YWCA through these events provides recognition and commitment of your business to YWCA members and supporters. Invitations and additional information regarding these events will be mailed out closer to the event date.
