Assistant Teacher – Infant Rooms

Objective To assist with classroom responsibilities in the Early Learning Centers of the YWCA at the Schenectady County Community College and Washington Avenue sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise children
  2. Follow the daily schedule
  3. Assist with planning educational activities
  4. Work as a team member with all staff
  5. Flexible work schedule
  6. Adhere to the NYSOCFS child care regulations
  7. Perform other duties as assigned


  1. High school diploma or a GED
  2. Two years’ experience working with Infants and Toddlers in a licensed childcare
  3. CDA preferred, but not required
  4. Medication Administration Training (MAT), First Aid, CPR certified preferred

Accountable To:  
Early Learning Center Director

Hours:  Monday – Friday, full-time or part-time, flexible hours

Children’s Case Manager

Objective Full time position responsible for providing supervision and case management support to children and families residing at the Domestic Violence Shelter and our Stepping Stone Transitional Housing Program. Also includes working with parents to increase knowledge and awareness of resources and coordination of daily recreational activities for children and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide daily activities with children residing in the DV Shelter
  2. Provide case management with parents; handling a variety of topics such as education, clothing, medical or dental needs, referrals and advocacy.
  3. Provide regular outings and maintain a monthly calendar
  4. Transport children and families to outings
  5. Maintain playroom and supplies
  6. Facilitate weekly Parent Group and provide ongoing support
  7. Provide support and safety planning with families in the Stepping Stone program.
  8. Assist with families transitioning from the DV Shelter to the Stepping Stone program and provide ongoing opportunities for children to participate in activities and outings.
  9. Provide childcare when parent is at appointments
  10. Document and submit reports as needed

Associate’s degree in human services, sociology, child development, or related field; Bachelor’s preferred. At least two years’ experience in the area of domestic violence, residential treatment, parent education, caring for/supervising children, youth shelter, or residential program, or combination of education and skills that are equivalent. First Aid/CPR required. Clean driver’s license and car available for use during work hours. Sensitivity to multi-cultural, ethnic, and diverse populations a must.

Accountable To:  DV Shelter Coordinator

Hours Full-time, Tuesdays-Saturdays, 11:00 am – 7:00 pm, with flexibility

Volunteer Coordinator (VITA Program)

Objective Responsible for coordinating the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program including recruiting, supervising & training volunteers and providing income tax preparation services to customers in Schenectady. Position is seasonal from November – May and part-time (20 hours weekly).

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and maintain comprehensive, professional and mission driven tax programs for the VITA program
  2. Maintain high functioning level of communication within the Schenectady CASH Coalition, YWCA and throughout the community, to continually strive for high quality, mission driven programming
  3. Recruit, train and supervise members & volunteers for the VITA program from community agencies, businesses and organizations to support the mission of the programs
  4. Successfully complete the IRS – VITA training and proficiently prepare NYS and Federal Income Tax Returns on paper and electronically for customers
  5. Regularly attend VITA community meetings and provide up to date information to participating partners on services


  • Background in IRS Tax Preparation & regulations, training skills, administrative skills and experience necessary
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field with one-year of related experience or Associate’s Degree in related field with three years of related experience
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from customers and the general public
  • Demonstrated computer expertise
  • New York State driver’s license, traffic abstract, copy of insurance verification and copy of Social Security card must be submitted upon hiring
  • Use of personal vehicle during work hours

Accountable To:  YWCA Economic Solutions Coordinator

Hours Part-time, 20 hours weekly, with flexibility, including evenings and Saturdays during tax season.
