Assistant Teacher

Assistant Teacher

Objective:  Responsible for functions relating to the Assistant Teacher of the YWCA NorthEastern NY Early Childhood Education (ECE) sites. Gives professional leadership in a membership organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist in the preparation and execution of weekly lesson plans for the classroom
  2. Monitor educational supplies and equipment needs in the classroom
  3. Attend YWCA and on site staff meetings
  4. Assist in maintaining the order and cleanliness of the classroom
  5. Execute planned program activities independently in the absence of the teacher
  6. Assist in the completion of assigned classroom paperwork
  7. Implement child abuse and maltreatment mandates
  8. Works in a team capacity
  9. Other duties may be assigned

High school diploma or a GED with two years experience in working with an early childhood population; Child Development Associate (CDA)/AA or actively pursuing one of these; FA/CPR/MAT certified.

Accountable To:  Youth and Family Services Director

Hours:  Monday – Friday,  full time and part time available

Community Outreach Specialist (ENCORE)

Objective:  To provide current information and outreach services about breast health/cancer screenings. Program is designed to reach under-served Latina and African American women in Schenectady and Montgomery counties. Must have reliable transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate outreach to colleges, churches and other agencies to offer the program.
  2. Attend health fairs and other public forums to promote the program.
  3. Arrange for small group presentations in both counties through various venues.
  4. Promote other programs of the YWCA as appropriate.
  5. Record and track data for grant. Assist with grant renewal process.
  6. Prepare monthly reports.
  7. Order materials and maintain supplies.

Qualifications:  High school diploma or GED, college courses or degree in public health, nursing, human services or related field preferred. Must have basic computer skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to relate well to a diverse population. Prior experience conducting workshops or training preferred. Must be self-directed, organized, with excellent follow-through.

Accountable To:  Youth & Family Services Director

Hours:  Part-time (10 hours per week) with flexible schedule. May include occasional weekend or weeknight outreach.

Domestic Violence Shelter Case Manager

Objective:  The DV Shelter Case Manager performs intakes with clients, completes assessments, and works with clients to develop action plans. The DV Shelter Case Manager works with clients to access appropriate referral services and does follow-up.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide services as required by the YWCA NorthEastern NY’s Mission and as required by funding sources.
  2. Deliver intake, statistical reporting and program responsibilities
  3. Develop action plans for clients in cooperation with advocates and counselors
  4. Have a working knowledge of the legal and social service systems
  5. Provide information, support, assurance and guidance to clients
  6. Maintain client files and other records necessary for shelter operations
  7. Document and submit reports as needed

Qualifications:  Associate’s degree in human services, sociology or related field; and/or applicable experience in social services, women’s housing or domestic violence; clean driver’s license and car available for use during work hours.

Accountable To:  DV Shelter Coordinator

Hours:  Full time, Tuesdays-Saturdays, 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm

Early Learning Center (ELC) Site Coordinator

Objective:  Responsible for coordination and supervision of Early Learning Center (ELC) staff and daily operations at the Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) site. Provides administrative support to the Youth & Family Services Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provides daily supervision, coordination and guidance to SCCC staff
  2. Reviews lessons plans and provides direction
  3. Maintains all OCFS regulations; NAEYC and Quality Stars standards
  4. Conducts staff trainings and meetings regularly
  5. Carries out recruitment plan for the site
  6. Interfaces with parents, staff, vendors, and licensing agencies to ensure compliance and high quality service delivery
  7. Prepares reports as required
  8. Substitutes in classrooms as needed.

Qualifications: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree including or in addition to, 12 credits in Early Childhood, Child Development or related field; and one year full-time teaching experience in a child day care center, family or group family day care home or other early childhood program; and one year of experience supervising staff in a child care program or related field of work.

Accountable To:  Youth and Family Services Director

Hours:  Monday-Friday, full time

Objective:  Provide the skills necessary to ensure a safe and clean environment at the YWCA Northeastern NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan & complete the work duties as assigned
  2. Provide the physical labor to carry out the work plan
  3. Work as a team member with all staff
  4. Flexible work schedule. Able to sub for other team members if requested
  5. Sensitivity to YWCA clients. Able to maintain confidentiality
  6. Provide services to off-site facilities as required
  7. Ability to act prudently in an emergency situation as well as in daily activities
  8. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:  High school diploma/GED with 2+ years’ housekeeping experience. Must have a valid, clean NYS Driver’s license and appropriate insurance. Will be required to provide a NYS Driving Abstract from DMV and undergo a criminal background screening.

Accountable To:  Facilities Director

Hours:  Monday-Friday, full time

Shelter Food Service Manager

Objective:  Responsible for functions relating to the nutrition program of the YWCA Northeastern NY’s DV Shelter. Maintains all aspects of meal preparation, cleanup and storage for meals. Provides nutritional counseling and education to Shelter families.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepares breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner for 20 residents
  2. Creates menus for the Shelter in compliance with CACFP guidelines
  3. Maintains food inventory and food ordering
  4. Maintains a clean, sanitary, and well-organized kitchen
  5. Maintains Department of Health Safety and Sanitation regulations and CACFP guidelines for children and adult nutrition.
  6. Utilizes designated chemicals, knows the proper use and storage according to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  7. Monitor and maintain equipment as needed
  8. Assists Shelter Coordinator with reports as needed
  9. Provides nutritional counseling and education to Shelter families
  10. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:  Associate degree in Culinary Arts and/ 3+ years’ experience in cooking for large groups, especially in school or camp environments. Effective communication and computer skills required. Adaptable to change, flexible in daily routines. Sensitivity to the needs of the YWCA clients. Clean NYS Driver’s license with appropriate insurance required.

Accountable To:  Shelter Coordinator

Hours:  Monday-Friday, full time, 7:00 – 3:30 pm, with some flexibility
