Assistant Teacher – Infant Rooms

Objective To assist with classroom responsibilities in the Early Learning Centers of the YWCA at the Schenectady County Community College and Washington Avenue sites.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Supervise children
  2. Follow the daily schedule
  3. Assist with planning educational activities
  4. Work as a team member with all staff
  5. Flexible work schedule
  6. Adhere to the NYSOCFS child care regulations
  7. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications: 

  1. High school diploma or a GED
  2. Two years’ experience working with Infants and Toddlers in a licensed childcare
  3. CDA preferred, but not required
  4. Medication Administration Training (MAT), First Aid, CPR certified preferred

Accountable To:  Early Learning Center Director

Hours:  Monday – Friday, full-time or part-time, flexible hours

Domestic Violence Counselor

Objective Facilitate group sessions and provide assessment, counseling, referral services, and domestic violence education to women who are victims of domestic violence and their children.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Provide services as required by the YWCA NorthEastern NY’s Mission, policies and procedures
  2. Provide individual and group counseling to Women and Families Services sheltered and non-sheltered clients
  3. Carry out intake, statistical reporting and program responsibilities as directed
  4. Provide education and referral services


Qualifications:  
BA degree in counseling or a related field with a minimum of two years’ experience in DV or crisis counseling; clean driver’s license and car available for use during work hours. Spanish speaking preferable.

Accountable To:  Counseling Coordinator

Hours:  Full-Time, flexible hours with some evening sessions

Infant Teacher

Objective Responsible for providing supervision and educational programming for preschool children at the Early Learning Centers of the YWCA in Schenectady.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan educational activities based on age-specific curriculum
  2. Supervise children, staff, volunteers and interns in the classroom
  3. Follow the daily schedule
  4. Work as a team member with all staff in the Early Learning Centers
  5. Adhere to the NYSOCFS child care regulations
  6. Maintain NAEYC and Quality Stars standards
  7. Attend required trainings and staff meetings
  8. Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:  Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma AND a Certificate in Childhood Development (CDA) with at least two years’ experience in a licensed childcare program. Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred. First Aid and CPR certified within 60 days of hiring. Medication Administrative Training preferred.

Accountable To:  Early Learning Center Director

Hours:  Monday – Fridays – full time, some flexibility

Maintenance Worker

Objective:  Provide the skills necessary to ensure a safe and clean environment at the YWCA NorthEastern NY.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Plan & complete the duties assigned by the Facilities Director, including basic plumbing, electrical, painting, room/apartment turnovers, stripping and buffing floors, basic repairs and cleaning.
  2. Yard work and snow removal as needed
  3. Substitute as necessary to cover shifts
  4. Work as a team member with all staff
  5. Flexible work schedule
  6. Provide services to off-site facilities as required
  7. Ability to act prudently in an emergency situation as well as in daily activities

Qualifications:  High school diploma/GED with minimum of two years’ building maintenance or construction trade experience. Must have valid, clean NYS Driver’s license. Ability to drive own vehicle for work-related travel and agency van. Experience with basic plumbing, electrical a plus. Sensitivity to diverse cultures and domestic violence victims a must.

Accountable To:  Facilities Director

HoursTuesday – Saturday, full time, 4:00PM – Midnight
